NASCAR Suspends Another Crew Member
Daytona Beach, FL, United States (AHN) - NASCAR indefinitely suspended NASCAR team crew member William Wheeler Tuesday for violating its substance abuse policy.
Wheeler, a crew member for the No. 57 team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, was the latest casualty as a result of the sanctioning body's vamped-up testing policy.
He was cited for violating Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2010 NASCAR rule book.
NASCAR randomly tests drivers and crew members throughout the season and has increased its number of random tests over the last couple of years.
A few years ago the organization revamped its policy after revelations by Aaron Fike that he drove in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series while being under the influence of drugs.
The policy also came to the forefront as a result of the ongoing litigation involving former driver Jeremy Mayfield.
