Coulter Headed Back to Short Track Roots at Berlin

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Much like most drivers who have their favorite cars and races, ARCA Racing Series sophomore driver Joey Coulter also has a favorite genre of tracks. The Miami Springs, FL native yearns for the fast-paced, bumper-to-bumper, banging fun, of the short track circuit, and Berlin Raceway falls right into that category. Heading into this weekends Berlin ARCA 200 (8/7/10), Coulter has once again set sights on taking home his first ARCA victory, and having some good old short track fun.

“Berlin (Raceway) is another one of those really unique and challenging tracks we get to visit on the diversified ARCA tour,” said Coulter. “The fact that it doesn’t really have any true corners and is around half a mile long really makes for an intense side-by-side battle that drivers and fans alike really enjoy. My team (Coulter Motorsports) has prepared me another great car and I am really looking forward to this weekend.”

Coulter, who has only run at the historic track once, looks to improve on his 2010 results in his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet with this weekend’s battle. His only appearance at Berlin Raceway came during the 2009 season (7/25/09), where he battled up front all night long before finishing fifth. Coulter, a 20-year old UNCC (University of North Carolina Charlotte) Mechanical Engineering student, learned much of his short track tenacity from running late models and USAR Pro Cup throughout much of the Southeastern United States, before joining the ARCA circuit.

Coulter Motorsports veteran NASCAR crew chief Harold Holly has prepared car number 10 for Saturday nights (8/7/10) race. Coulter last ran the car at the fast paced, high-banked Salem Speedway (4/11/10), where he ran up-front all day before a late race incident took him from contention. To further prepare for the Berlin ARCA 200, Coulter and his team will participate in an open test at the .5-mile paved circle Friday, August 6th. The test will run from 2:30-3:30 pm, 5:00-6:00 pm and finally, 7:30-8:00 pm and fans are encouraged to come out and watch.

“We have found ourselves caught in some unlucky situations this year, but I believe in our team and Joey (Coulter), and know our time is coming,” commented crew chief Harold Holly. “Joey has been fast everywhere we have gone, and it is only a matter of time before all of the pieces to the puzzle fit together. Berlin (Raceway) is a track Joey really enjoys, and our guys have worked really hard to provide him another fast car.”

The 200-lap, 88-mile Berlin ARCA 200 begins at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, August 7th.
