Wilson to Start P1 in Honda Indy Toronto
TORONTO -- Winning his first IZOD IndyCar PEAK Performance Pole Award, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing driver Justin Wilson is in good shape for tomorrow’s Honda Indy Toronto.
Wilson was fastest during qualifications with a best lap of one minute, 0.2710 seconds. His top speed was 104.827mph.
“We’ve had a couple of tough races so to come back and get the pole here is just fantastic. Everyone at Dreyer & Reinbold has worked so hard. I’m very please for Z-Line Designs. We’ll keep pushing for the race. It’s easy in this stage to sit back and relax, but we have a lot of work to do. It’s great that this is the team’s second career pole [the first was at Kentucky Speedway in 2002 by Sarah Fisher] and I want to get their second career win. That’s the big picture we’re looking at, but this is a great moment,” said Wilson.
Wilson has won both a pole and a race in Toronto while racing during his Champ Car career.
Also looking at the big picture is Team Penske’s Will Power, who has been a dominant driver this season. Power has won five poles in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar season to date and currently stands atop the series overall championship standings by one point. He is also the leader in the road championship standings. Power will start alongside Wilson in second position.
Power’s teammate Helio Castroneves (P3) will start alongside Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay (P4) on Row 2. While Target Chip Ganassi Racing Teammates Dario Franchitti (P5) and Scott Dixon (P6) will share Row 3.
The green flag drops at the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday, July 18 at 12:30 p.m. (EST) and will air live on ABC. It is the tenth race on the IZOD IndyCar Series 2010 schedule.
The Streets of Toronto is a 1.75-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit. Twenty-six cars are entered to race 148.75 miles over 85 laps.
This year’s Indianapolis 500 winner, Dario Franchitti, won the 2009 Honda Indy Toronto.
