Dixon Scores Controversial IndyCar Win In Edmonton
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (AHN) - The day in open-wheel racing was filled with controversy as two open-wheel races on two different continents produced two controversial wins.
Eight hours after Ferrari was fined $100,000 for orchestrating a win for driver Fernando Alonso over teammate Felipe Massa, Scott Dixon accepted a controversial IndyCar win in Edmonton.
In the case of Dixon, the win was handed to him by IndyCar even though Helio Castroneves' ride was the first to cross the finish line Sunday in the Honda Edmonton Indy.
Castroneves, who finished 10th, was penalized for blocking Dixon and after the race he exited his car to yell at IndyCar officials, grabbing one by the collar.
The multiple-time Indy 500 winner took the lead from Team Penske teammate Will Power with 18 laps to go, but was later whistled for blocking Power's try at a pass on a restart with two laps to go.
Power won the week prior in Canada, was this race's defending champion and took the pole Saturday for this race.
Dixon was handed the win with Power getting second and the top-five rounded out by Dario Franchitti, Ryan Briscoe and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
