JOLIET, Illinois – Ryan Briscoe, driver of the No. 6 Team Penske car and last year’s polesitter and winner of the PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy 300, clocked the fastest lap (217.874) during this morning’s practice session at Chicagoland Speedway.

The morning practice session is the sole practice session before the IZOD IndyCar drivers attempt to make a qualifying run at 2 pm (EST). At that time, the new qualifying format will go into effect with the average of two timed laps (instead of four) determining where each of the 29 cars entered into Saturday night’s race will be placed on the grid.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon was second fastest in practice (216.584) followed by Team Penske’s Will Power (216.528), who sits atop the IZOD IndyCar Series’ overall championship standings.

On the heels of the top three, are all four of Andretti Autosport’s cars: Marco Andretti (216.455), Danica Patrick (216.445), Ryan Hunter-Reay (216.368) and Tony Kanaan (216.220)

Rounding out the top ten are Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves (216.213), KV Racing Technology’s E.J. Viso (216.199) and Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dario Franchitti (216.194).
